Product Description
Phentermine is an appetite suppressant, which works by stimulating
the hypothalamus gland and affecting certain neurotransmitters to
decrease appetite. The hypothalamus is the region of the brain that
controls the autonomic nervous system, regulating sleep cycles, body
temperature, appetite, etc.
Dosage
Phentermine should be taken on an empty stomach. Take this medicine
about 30 minutes to 1 hour before Breakfast. It should be swallowed
whole.Avoid taking it late in the day as it may cause sleeplessness.
If you have to take a second dose, take it at least 4 to 6 hours
before bedtime.
The recommended dose of Phentermine may be different for different
patients. If your dose is different, do NOT change it unless
your doctor tells you to do so.
Adults under Age 60:
- Oral dosage form (Capsules) - 15 to 37.5 mg once per day before
breakfast or 1-2 hours after breakfast.
- Oral dosage form (Tablets) - 15 to 37.5 mg once per day before
breakfast or 1-2 hours after breakfast. Instead of taking it once
a day, your doctor may tell you to take 15 to 37.5 mg in divided
doses one-half hour before meals.
- Oral resin dosage form (Capsules) - 15 to 30 mg once per day before breakfast.
Adults Age 60 and Over:
- A reduced dosage may be necessary. Consult your physician.
Infants and Children:
Phentermine is NOT recommended for children under age 16.
Missed dose:
If you miss a dose of phentermine, take it as soon as possible.
But do not take 2 doses at once. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control
center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include
restlessness, tremor, rapid breathing, confusion, nausea, vomiting,
diarrhea, and stomach cramps.
Storage
- Phentermine must be should be kept out of children's
reach.
- It should be stored at room temperature below 77 degrees
F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and
light.
- Do NOT store phentermine in the bathroom, near the
kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture may cause
the medicine to break down.
- Do NOT keep outdated medicine past the expiration date.
Duration of usage:
Phentermine is meant for short-term use. Continuous use will lead
your body to build up a resistance to the effects of this medication
after a few weeks of treatment. It is always advised to take help
from the pill but not to get addicted to it.
Side Effects
Phentermine may cause unwanted side effects, some being symptoms
of serious heart or lung problems. Please consult your doctor immediately
if you notice:
- Chest pain
- Decreased ability to exercise
- Fainting
- Swelling of feet or lower legs
- Trouble in breathing
Other common symptoms include Depression, Drowsiness , Increased
blood pressure, Irritability, Nervousness ,Tiredness
, Blurred vision ,Change in sexual desire, Clumsiness ,Confusion
,Diarrhea ,Dizziness ,Dry mouth ,Headache ,Irregular heartbeat, Nausea
or vomiting ,Psychosis ,Skin rash or itching ,Stomach pain ,Tiredness
and Unpleasant taste.
Precautions
Please use Phentermine with caution as it is similar chemically
to amphetamines and has the potential for psychological dependency.
Do not miss any medical appointments while taking the drug and before
any medical or dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery, tell
the doctor or dentist that you are using phentermine. Do not share
this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed.Do not use
phentermine for other health conditions. Keep phentermine out of
the reach of children.
Drug Interactions:
When you are taking Phentermine (or other appetite suppressants),
it is especially important that you inform your doctor if you are
taking any of the following: Amantadine , i.e. - Symmetrel, Amphetamines,
Caffeine , i.e. - NoDoz, Chlophedianol , i.e. - Ulone, Cocaine, Medicine
for asthma or other breathing problems, Medicine for colds, sinus
problems, or hay fever or other allergies (including nose drops or
sprays), Methylphenidate , i.e. - Ritalin, Nabilone , i.e. - Cesamet,
diet pills or Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors ( citalopram,
i.e. - Celexa, fluoxetine, i.e. - Prozac, fluvoxamine, i.e. - Luvox,
paroxetine, i.e. - Paxil, sertraline, i.e. - Zoloft), Pemoline ,
i.e.- Cyler, Monoamine Oxidase (MAO) inhibitors and Tricyclic antidepressants.
Important NOTE:
Take Phentermine ONLY as directed by your doctor. If too much
Phentermine is taken, it may cause unwanted effects or become habit-forming.
Do NOT take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered.
