A new weight loss injection makes patients
feel full
July 28, 2005
British researchers developed a new natural digestive hormone injection
called Oxyntomodulin to treat the world's growing epidemic, Obesity.
As soon as the injection is released in the small intestine, it
reduces the appetite stopping people from eating more. Experts at
the Imperial College, London believe that Oxyntomodulin can tackle
the rising obesity levels in the society. The injection showed no
side effects. With more clinical tests and research on the anvil,
the prescription should be made available in about five years.
Obesity is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes
and other illnesses. Childhood obesity is also a matter of intense
concern. About 300 million people worldwide are obese and by 2025
the figure could rise to 333 million according to the World Health
Organisation report.
